Study : Some Covid patients could transmit virus already after 10 days

Some people with Covid were able to transmit the virus to others after the 10-day mark, at the minimum in the early days of the pandemic, a new U.K. study shows.

That’s according to research by the University of Exeter, which used an alternation test that can detect whether the virus remains active in those with before confirmed infections. It found that 13% of 176 people studied had levels high enough to be potentially infectious already after 10 days.

Out of the 176 participants, findings found that 13 percent nevertheless showed “clinically applicable” levels of live virus after 10 days, with some showing meaningful levels for up to 68 days.

The CDC states that anyone who may have been exposed to someone with Covid should test five days after their exposure, or as soon as symptoms occur.  “If symptoms occur, individuals should closest quarantine until a negative test proves symptoms are not attributable to COVID-19,” the guidance states. Covid symptoms can appear anywhere from two to 14 days after someone is exposed to the virus.
