Lakers To Upgrade In Offseason
After the disappointing exit from the playoffs Kobe Bryant was totally exasperated by the Los Angeles Lakers and wanted them to upgrade themselves in the offseason. The good news is that general manager Mitch Kupchak and coach Phil Jackson agree with Bryant.
The Lakers were deleted from the playoffs in the first round by the Phoenix Suns for the second consecutive year.
Kupchak confirmed that the team was looking to enhance itself by trade, free agency and draft. Kupchak said that the management is going to be as aggressive as possible to ensure that the team returns to championship level basketball.
After the Lakers lost 119-110 to Phoenix, Bryant was frustrated. He had an exit interview with Kupchak and Jackson before opening his heart out to the reporters and he had complete sustain of the management.
Kupchak said that he was aware of Bryant’s frustration and everyone else in the organization did not feel any different than him.
Bryant informed the reporters that the Lakers have to enhance in many areas and he now hopes that the organization does what he said in summer and then repeated it after the elimination.
However, the Lakers have their own problems. They are well above the salary cap and there are not many on the list next season that other teams would want. consequently, they would find it difficult to acquire a high profile player by a trade.
Kupchak said that the team could not guarantee a drastic change next season but the Lakers do have the 19th pick in the NBA draft.
The Lakers are now planning to build a team around Bryant as he contract of $88.5 million is nevertheless valid for another four years.
