How to Control Ants

Ants can be slightly impressive as they accomplish amazing things as a group. But, if you have ever had them move into your space, they are nothing but bothersome. It is incredibly unnerving to observe an ant infestation in the kitchen in the morning and see ants EVERYWHERE on your countertops. They can go into a home by the smallest of fractures setting up supply chains and communications lines back to the colony.

To control ants, you must determine how and where they are entering your space. Inside the home, you will find the trail of ants is coming from somewhere… trace them back to where they are entering the space. It could be from under the sink. It could be from a crack in the tile back splash on your counter. It could easily be from a windowsill that does not quite seal. There are as many ways to go into a home as there are ants in the world so keep going backwards on their trail to see where they are entering.

Once you locate the entry point inside, you need to then determine the entry point outside. Here is where it gets tricky – the exterior entry can be far away from the interior entry… or they could be the same thing.

If they are coming under a windowsill – the interior and exterior point is the same. Easy. But if you have a brick house, they may have entered into a hole in the grout of the brick and then tunneled between the brick and the siding the complete side of the house before discovering an interior welcome mat. Places where plumbing and electrical go in and out of the house are perfect!

When calculating the exterior entry point, start on the outside wall of where you found them inside and start looking…

Once these entry points are discovered, it is time for a complete-on assault of the ants! obtain a safe, ‘Green’, and effective all-natural pest control product to control these crawlers. As you are spraying inside the home (and possibly within the structure of your home), you DO NOT WANT A SYNTHETIC, TOXIC, CHEMICAL PESTICIDE!

Liberally spray these entrances both inside and outside. Spray to the left and right, up and down, side to side of these points to control the ants that are there and also to control FUTURE Ants from entering. Spray these areas everyday for three days (another reason to use safe, all-natural products as you will be around them for several days), and you will most certainly see a huge difference.

If the infestation is harsh, it may require a week of applications.

Now these ants will be on the lookout for NEW entry points. Be super diligent the first several weeks looking out for new ant trails. As soon as you see any evidence of ants, obtain the entrances and repeat the above steps.
